Is there a fee to enter the John Logie Baird Awards Programme?
No. Participation in the Programme is free of charge.
What’s more, all the information, advice, support and workshops you will receive as part of the support package are also free of charge.
Can you afford not to enter?
To enter, do I need to do anything besides fill out and submit the online application form?
No. The Venture Navigator Application Tool will guide you through the
application process. You will also have the opportunity to upload any
document that you wish to use to support your application. This can be
in be in word, powerpoint, or pdf fromat up to a maximum file size of
5MB.
In addition you have the opportunity to then utilise all the free online business assessment tools that the Venture Navigator tool offers to further enhance your business.
It you may even find it beneficial to complete some of the Venture Navigator assessments before completing your application.
I am eligible for more than one category, how do I decide?
You don’t have to. You are free to enter into as many categories as you like as long as you meet the entry criteria. For example you may be a Public Sector organisation who has used innovative processes to make an successful impact on their business. In that case, you would be eligible to enter either the “Public and Third Sector” Category for a new product / service to the public or the “Achievement in Innovation” Category if it was a process innovation to make you for example more efficient or environmentally friendly
If you are in any doubt have a look again at the award categories (link) and check the entry criteria.
I am not sure my entry fits in to any category?
Check the award categories again just to make sure.

What is the deadline for entering the John Logie Baird Awards Programme?
The deadline for entries has now been extended to the 29th September 2008. No further applications will be accepted after that deadline.
To ensure that you have enough time to give yourself the best shot at applying we would suggest that you start the process as soon as possible.
You may want to submit supporting documentation and this may take you time to complete.
In addition, the workshop programme will begin in the Autumn 2008. To ensure that you are eligible to take part in these workshops then we have to have your completed application.

I do not have a reliable internet connection to complete the online application form. How else can I apply?
All applications to the John Logie Baird Awards are online however if
you are having difficulties or there is a specific reason that you are
unable to complete the online application form then please send a short
note and we will supply you with a printed version of the application
form. You can submit the printed version to:

Printed applications must arrive at the above address by the 29th September in order to be considered. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 17.00
I have entered my e-mail address and my post code to the Venture Navigator site and nothing has happened. How do I get to the application?
If you haven’t already, you will shortly receive an e-mail with a link back into the site. Please follow this link to complete the registration process and create your own unique account.
You have now completed the sign in stage and have an active account. This means that if you want to save your application at any stage you can return to it by entering your details.
You can continue to save you data by clicking the save button at the end of the application form as many times as you like. As soon as you are ready to submit your entry you can do this by clicking the submit button.
Can I submit more than one project to the competition?
YES, if you have more than one relevant innovation then you may submit a separate application for each. However we would suggest that you limit the number of applications you make.
How do I know you have definitely received my application and it’s being considered?
On receiving your application, we will send you a short notice by email. Once you have submitted your application you cannot make changes to it so be sure to use the SAVE facility to save you application as you go and review it properly before making a submission.
What does the prize consist of? What kind of support can John Logie Baird Award winners expect?
Unlike most other competitions, a money prize is only one element of the overall award; instead winners receive a comprehensive package of tailor-made support services to respond to the challenges that innovators, established businesses and other organisations face in order to take their innovation to market.
Is there an award ceremony?
Yes. A formal awards ceremony and Gala Dinner will be held on the 10th December 2008 at the Glasgow Science Centre.
Finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations in a one day exhibition on the day of the Gala Dinner before the awards announcements are made.
Is the application form available in other languages than English?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer this option this year. We are able to process applications only in English.
